"Its a new dawn, its a new day, its a new life...

...foorrrr meeeeeeee! And Im fee-ling good!!'

Well yes I know that the dramatic song quotation would have looked fantastic and apt if I had managed to send it on New Years Day like I intended. But I didnt, I got farrr too messy with the old NYE cellies and so its three days late. I also intended to log other entries since the old 'locking myself out of me flat' incident but if I had of managed to write they would have had smug titles such as:
23rd Dec 2005
'Turning 28's alright standing in the evening sun in the OPERA BAR looking at the HARBOUR BRIDGE'
or
25th Dec 2005
'Christmas on Curly Beach'

My birthday was lovely actually. I spent the whole day stressed out and near to tears (I do believe heat and homesickness dont mix- or rubbish hairdressers) then at 6pm Im standing in the worlds most famous harbour with a glass of bubbly in hand, my brother, a friend from work and her bloke, my 'internet date' pal Lucy with a few of her mates- and also FIVE Kiwi EX representatives in the shape of Rich, Rob, Jane, Janine & Lee! Wow! Depsite being half cut I have to say it was fab to be surrounded by such groovy people when Id really felt the other side of the world from home that day.

Christmas in Curly was the 'Lost Souls' way of doing things. Me, my brother, Karen (work pal) her bloke Ian and of course Phil headed over to Curl Curl beach in Manly to seek out Marcus and his posh condo. We had a xmas morning bash about the waves and then it was a very unfestive seafood lunch, decked out in Hawaiian garlands. Then we got pished. Then Phil & myself took ourselves off to James Le Sargs xmas party in Paddington and were the only two left when everyone else had gone or indeed gone to bed. Y'know like that Oasis song line 'your the univited guest who stays til the end..' well that was us at 6.30am

Geeked it up abit by going canyoning in the Blue Mountains on New Years Eve day... despite loving all the outdoorsy stuff of NZ I can say that this one wasnt for me. They had us in the geekiest wetsuits clambering through reaaaaaallly cold water and then absailing down rock sides. Them frazzeling in the bush. The outback sort before you smirk. I prefered the Nevis... And also think I should have been beautifying myself for NYE not pissing about in a canyon all day. Ah well, I did it so 'tick'!'

After much umming and arring about New Years Eve (you cant take drink to the Botanical Gardens, you wont see the bridge from blah blah blah) a gang of us ended up at Embarkation Point early eveing where a few hundred people had set up picnics, and drank far too much from the eskies and coolers they had brought with them. Bumped into a load of Irish girls I'd met in the infamous Milhouse Hostel in Buenos Aires... small world... It was funny actually because with me was Phil (met him in Milhouse) and 2 days earlier James W and his mate John had landed on my doorstep to stay for a week and Id met him in Milhouse too. Its funny how this travel lark comes back to you. Anyway the fireworks were lovely. At least I vaguely remember they were due to having consumed some pretty hefty self measures of vodka... and box wine... and ... well what ever was going really :) Then it was a weird night down Darlinghurst (Gay Captial of Sydney) where we had to wrangle our way into bars. The thing with Sydney is they wont serve you alcohol if they think you are drunk. I mean they have 24 hour bar opening so what do they expect you to be when you are trying to get into a bar at 4am? I have had a few words about this with various bouncers. Ask Rich or Rob, I was very dignified.....

New Years Day saw Sydney have the hottest day since never - a whopping 44 degrees- cue ambulances down on Bondi Beach and of course, forest fires.

And thats it really. 2005 was really a game of two halves- one of the best wind downs in England with the Leeds & Liverpool posses- (festivals, concerts, parties and of course Ibiza) and then 5 months of the most interesting, high, very rarely low times of my life covering nine countries so far... if youve been keeping track you'll know that ive met countless amazing people, seen things I hadnt thought existed and done things I had never dreamed of doing. I count all blessings- Im very lucky.

Im rubbing my hands for 2006 (although to be fair, I gotta get me a job)but I'll finish with a text a good mate sent to me this New Year:

"Read a great quote today that reminded me of you! 'The world is like a book and those who do not travel dont even turn the first page'"

Couldnt have put it better myself.
All the best for 2006,
McGlynner
